[ Very carefully, she nudges him. ]

You did good. Getting everybody to settle down.

[ his brow knits, a little. he'll look away. ]

... you think so? All I did was yell at people.

Sometimes you gotta yell to get people's attention. Sometimes you gotta get in people's faces and show them you're upset so they actually listen to you.

[ She's very gentle with any sort of touch, including reaching to rest her hand on his back. ]

[ she reaches out to touch his back, and after a moment, Isaac kinda just

lets himself

lean into her. Still curled up. ]

I really didn't think they'd listen.

[ he still seems surprised they did. ]

I was just ... mad. I'm still mad. Not at like ... anyone specific I guess, just ...

[ He uncurls enough to rub his chest with his good hand ]

When I get angry it just ... it just sits, buzzing in my head, getting worse and worse, until...

[ until he explodes, apparently. ]

[ All of the tension completely soaks out of her when he curls up against her. She's very, very relieved, and she pulls him in easily enough, resting the side of her head against the top of his. ]

You know - I know how that feels? [ She says quietly. ] It kinda hurts after a while, right? Makes your chest all tight, it's hard to breathe. So it's better you let it out.

[ Sniff. ] I can take it. So can the rest of them.

[stormsoff]

[ Good. Good. That's the way it should be. Isaac leans against her like he belongs there--and he feels like he does.

What a strange and wonderful thing.

He wants to look up at her when she says that, but can't, with the way their heads are positioned. Instead he just ... swallows, hard. ]

... y-yeah. Sometimes it's like ... I can't breathe around it. It's all I can think about, for weeks.

[ .... ]

I know he was provoking you, Beau. It's ... it's okay. I get why you were mad.

[ She squeezes him gently against her side. It's surprising to her how easy it is to just let him in. It kind of makes her distantly amused to think what the rest of the Nein would say if they could see her right now. ]

Yeah, I had my reasons, but you're right, I'm a grown-ass woman and I should behave myself. Not stoop to his level. [ She sighs. ] So I'm sorry. Really.

Especially because your arm got hurt.

[stormsoff]

[ ..... good god, what does he even say?

When has anyone ever apologized to him? He's so used to things being his fault, to being the one expected to apologize and constantly atone, that for someone to insist he was in the right and offer him an apology, and such a sincere, emotional one at that...

For a long moment he just stays tucked against her side. It's probably best she can't see his face in this position, because he's trying not to cry. ]

... I'm made of tougher stuff than that, remember? [ there's a smile in his voice. ] It'll take more than some stupid floor to beat me. So ... so ...

[ .... much more quietly ]

[ It's scary, she's realizing, how much this kid is like her. It's scary to know she has no idea what to do with that. But she tries. ]

You're welcome, Issac. [ She says, genuinely. She struggles, for a long moment, trying to figure out what else to say. For right now, she doesn't think there's anything to say, so she stays quiet.

But she won't let go of him. As far as she's concerned, he can stay next to her as long as he wants. Maybe she can help with the nightmares. Who knows. ]

[stormsoff]

[ Yeah, he lapses into silence, too. Despite the fight and how tumultuous the night has been, he feels ... safe, here, at her side.

If she thinks to check up on him after a couple of minutes, she may realize he's actually dozed off. ]

[ She's totally fine with this. She's not tired for now, and she's more than happy to just let him rest here undisturbed.

She kind of wishes she could feel him cuddled up against her side. But it's okay. She'll survive - she usually does. ]
